The XII Brazilian Workshop on Continuous Optimization will take place in Foz do Iguaçu, in the Paraná state, South of Brazil, from July 23 to 27, 2018. Subjects to be discussed encompass theoretical, computational and implementation issues, in both linear and nonlinear programming, including variational inequalities, complementarity problems, nonsmooth optimization, vector optimization, generalized equations, optimization in manifolds, among others. The workshop will consist of plenary lectures, offered by invited speakers, and of contributed talks.
The conference series "Brazilian Workshop on Continuous Optimization"
(BrazOpt) started in 1997.
The first BrazOpt was a tiny little one, held in a classroom at the
Mathematical Department of Federal University
of Santa Catarina. The attendants were a group of researchers in
Mathematical Optimization who had gathered forces
to ask for a large grant, named PRONEX. This program was meant to
promote the creation of "excellence core groups" on a given
subject, by funding on a continous basis activities involving several
research centers in the country. Our PRONEX was on Continuous
More than 20 year afterwards, thanks to the enthusiasm and vision of
the four principal investigators in the original project
(Clovis Gonzaga, Carlos Humes, Alfredo Iusem, Mario Martinez), the
program can be declared a full success. The Continuous Optimization
community in Brazil is very active on various fronts and has
considerably grown, both in size and international impact.
This BrazOpt edition celebrates José Mario Martínez's 70th and Yuan Jin Yun's 60th birthday.
We are looking forward to another great conference, with many interesting
professional exchanges accompanied by pleasant social activities
